Hey!
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jakob Greenfeld. I run Sales.co and this is my personal newsletter. I send this every month or so to interesting people I’ve connected with and friends I want to keep in touch with. You can unsubscribe at any time, and I won't be mad. I won't even be notified!
Here’s what I’ve been up to recently.
I rediscovered how much better I feel when I do regular cardio, not just weight lifting. Feels like my brain upgraded from GPT-4 to GPT-5 and someone installed a brand new battery pack. Wrote more about it here.
Speaking of lifting weights, I struggled to do it consistently regularly for a while. I did it but by no means enjoyed it.
I solved the problem by replacing the yes/no decision of whether or not I go to the gym at a particular day with an A/B decision.
I go to the gym every single day now and will spend at least 20 minutes exercising. No exceptions. But depending on how I feel I either A) run on the treadmill or B) lift weights. In general, asking A/B instead of Yes/No is an underappreciated persuasion hack.
I also wrote about why I’m paying much more attention to anti-habits than habits this year.
😌 Dope stuff
Some of my favorite things since the last newsletter (note: I don’t get paid to recommend anything here):
🖼️ Reframe. Lots of people are unable to sleep through the night and tend to wake up around 3 am. Scott Britton came up with one of the coolest reframes I’ve seen recently:
One day it occurred to me that perhaps I was being woken up each night not because something was wrong with me, but for a bigger reason: to receive information from the Divine.
I started to keep a notepad next to my bed and lean in, viewing these experiences as a gift. Each night when I wake up, I’ll pose this question to a clear mind: “What guidance or information would you like me to be aware of?”
Ignore the woo, that’s a really cool idea. When you wake up in the middle of the night you can get mad OR you can say “Nice! I get some time with my brain in a very specific state. Let’s see what I can do with it”.
(I should add that I was waking up consistently at 3 am for a while but was able to stop this from hapening by reducing my salt intake after 4pm.)
🧭 Agency. I’m convinced there is a lot of truth in Richard Bartlett’s “Map to Self-Evaluate Your Level of Agency”. Very easy to get fooled by the pursuit of individualistic self-development when real growth requires contact to networks of other people.
That’s all from me this week.
Talk soon,
Jakob
Thanks for sharing, Jakob!
Love the twist of stacking "1% less of" achievements in my day-to-day. "Eating one handful less than yesterday" sounds like an achievable challenge compared to "don't junk today" 🤠
